Bio

A star in high school and a standout point guard for the University of Maryland, Howard “H” White was an NBA draft pick until knee injuries put a stop to his basketball career. Undaunted, Howard put his other skills to use, eventually finding his way to Nike, Inc. Now vice president of Jordan Brand, he has been with the company for forty years. With Nike’s support, he founded the “Believe to Achieve” program, an innovative traveling seminar designed to encourage youth to believe in themselves and adults to mentor them. A tremendous, charismatic public speaker, White's passion and excitement for life moves adults and children alike. He lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon, with his wife Donna and daughter Mandy.

Continuing Partnerships with Sports and Education…

Believe to Achieve focuses on it’s ability to blend sports with education. Through a series of detailed seminars, classes, and forums, BTA highlights the unique relationship between athletics and education. Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to participate in specific events designed to bring awareness to the role and meaning of the “student - athlete”.

Educational materials are constantly being created to support effective learning. The Believe to Achieve Mentoring Guide contains lessons and activities designed to provoke thought, good will, and meaningful conversations.

Continuing Education for Teachers

In the fall of 2022 Believe to Achieve will launch it’s “Continuing Education for Teachers” program. The goal is to address the needs of educators including counselors, administrators, school leaders, and influential community leaders. Through a series of both in-person and virtual sessions BTA will provide a “support platform” which will feature technology, pedagogical practices, and multi-media outlets.

Framing the “Bigger Picture”

Maintaining the focus of a young mind may be a challenge in some cases…with that in mind, BTA’s extensive resource platforms will continue to encourage and promote the achievements of the students that demonstrate the ability to work hard, participate in community initiatives, with the goal of becoming a solid citizen in society.
